With the community curators now meeting every week, we are beginning to focus in on the heritage stories we want to tell in the Dining Room Space. From the corn wars, to the Pioneers and the unbroken record for the world’s biggest pancake, Rochdale has a unique history associated with food, as well as the different cultural traditions and celebrations that are found throughout Rochdale today.
During the meeting, the group worked together to map out some key themes that we will continue to explore over the coming weeks – from cooking for families, to the materials we find in our kitchen and the colours of different cultural celebrations. Teasing out some key themes for the Dining Room displays, they will be working with the collections team to pull together historical objects, as well as talking to the wider community to find the objects, voices and stories that are missing from the current museum collections.
