Aqua Relax
An unstructured session offering a relaxing, quieter swimming environment. Ideal for people who prefer to swim or exercise in water in a quiet and friendly environment. Staff are available poolside to offer support, carer’s welcome to attend, swimming aides are available. Followed by a cup of tea and a chat.

Specialist back care sessions assist you to manage your condition on an everyday basis. Sessions are suitable for anyone with a non-specific back pain issue.
This mat based class focuses on yoga poses that strengthen back muscles, improve flexibility and ease muscle tension in both the upper and lower back.

Cardiac rehabilitation is a 14 week course to build cardiovascular fitness and strength for people who have suffered a cardiac event or have an existing condition.
The session focuses on building heart health, confidence in physical activity, and mental wellbeing, in a positive environment with like-minded participants and cardiac professionals.
Trained instructors will keep track of blood pressure in a non-clinical environment alongside the exercise component each week to provide a safe but enjoyable session for all participants.

Chair Based Yoga
This yoga/stretch/relaxation session takes place seated on chairs (or from a participant’s own wheelchair), and is fully inclusive and can be tailored to meet the needs of people with a wide range of disabilities, sensory impairments and long term health conditions.

Exercise Referral
The exercise referral scheme is a 12 week programme to help support people with long term health conditions. Following an initial appointment to discuss health conditions and your current lifestyle, an agreed activity plan will be created and further appointments arranged if required. All personal information with remain confidential. This programme could include structured activities (e.g. swimming, health walks) and supported activities (fitness classes, gym) which are offered at a discounted cost at Your Trust facilities.
You can be referred by any health care provider e.g. GP’s, physios, mental health services. You can also be referred by agreed partner and self-refer either by calling 01706 923685 or emailing exercise.referrals@rochdale.gov.uk
Anybody can be referred to the scheme who deals with and lives with any long term conditions and are over 16 years of age.
Examples of these are:
- Heart disease, COPD/Asthma/any other breathing conditions, Hypertension, High cholesterol, Diabetes, Weight above a BMI of 25, with another risk factor for CHD e.g.high cholesterol, pre diabetes, hypertension ,smoking, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia or any other musculoskeletal disorder, Mental Health e.g. mild to moderate – depression and anxiety or any other conditions that would benefit from a programme of exercise.
Exclusion: Anybody whose condition is not stable and controlled cannot be referred. Please click here for more information.
Falls Prevention
Falls prevention is a 14 week postural stability course focusing on improving muscular strength, balance and confidence. The course works on strengthening areas most likely to contribute to falls and build all round health and wellbeing in a safe environment.
The course will build participant confidence and allow people to improve their everyday lives, provide the ability to manage falls safety if they were to happen, however ultimately prevent falls in the long term.

Designed to help people with a variety of long term conditions to strengthen joints and muscles and improve balance and stability.
The class will provide activities which promote postural stability and balance to assist greater independence and improve both mental and physical wellbeing.

We understand that starting group exercise classes can sometimes feel a little daunting.
These 30 minute classes are a great way to build confidence and give a flavour of what the class experience is like, a chance to meet the instructors, learn the basics and set up, learn the health benefits and have fun and meet people.
Intro classes include: yoga, indoor cycling, and aqua fit.

Nutrition, Exercise and Wellbeing
Providing specialist information, motivation and support to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
During this 12 week course, our friendly, fully-qualified team will give you support to lose weight, set achievable goals, make healthier food choices, exercise to help with weight loss and learn skills to prevent weight gain.

Strength and Balance
Strength and Balance (previously Advanced Falls Prevention) is a continuous follow on class from falls prevention (see details above) to further enhance skills and techniques learnt in the first 14 weeks.
Participants must have completed the initial falls class to move forward and be cleared by the exercise professionals.

Supporting Swimmers with Long Term Health Conditions Course
A 6 week course aimed at those living with long term conditions who can swim but have ceased swimming on a regular basis due to a long term condition, for example limited mobility, lack of confidence, unsure of what is safe practice, breathing issues, aches and pains.
The course will be led by a Swim Teacher qualified in supporting swimmers with long term conditions, and supported by a specialist fitness instructor. It will focus on all strokes, water confidence and utilise both the small and large pools.
The aim of the course is to provide the knowledge, techniques and confidence to get you back swimming on a regular basis and gain all the benefits that swimming and water exercise brings.

Water Confidence
A 30 session minute aimed at people living with long term conditions who have ceased to access the pool due to loss of confidence. The session includes changing room tours and information of changing room access and provision for disability. Pool access to small single depth pool to build confidence at being back in the water. Availability of supporting swimmers with long term conditions trained swim teacher for general hints and tips on getting back swimming and a specialist fitness instructor or hints and tips on the benefits of activity and exercise in water.

Water Walking
Walking in water is an excellent cardio and resistance form of exercise. Great for all abilities, for those who find walking on land difficult, for recovery from injury, gentle on bones and joints, strengthens and tones muscles and helps with balance. Water supports the body weight, provides resistance and minimises pain.
