In the summer of 2022, Harry Meadley’s Free-for-All invited the people of Rochdale to use Touchstones’ gallery spaces however they wanted to. There were tea dances, an open exhibition, gong baths, DJ workshops, and so much more – all programmed for and by you.
In 2025, the next evolution of the project – Side-by-Side – will celebrate the re-opening of Touchstones following redevelopment, building on the experience of Free-for-All and working even more closely with our local communities.
For 2025, we’ve been hard at work connecting with groups and artists, and have recruited a team of five representatives from our local community who will help shape the Touchstones’ programme through Side-by-Side and beyond.
There will also be community events and opportunities for you to submit your ideas as Side-by-Side develops, so keep an eye on this page for updates.

Opportunity for 10 – 14-year-olds
We’re working with young people to develop their confidence and creative skills in preparation for Side-by-Side.
The young people participate in workshops every two weeks where they explore different art forms in an effort to help them uncover their creative skills while also learning more about the world, meeting new people, and exploring their own creativity.
