Exploring Rochdale’s local heritage provides a gateway into global topics and an opportunity for children to explore their own identity. Join this free CPD event to discover the range of education opportunities provided by our local heritage organisations including Touchstones Museum, Rochdale Town Hall and the Cooperative Heritage Trust. Suitable for primary and secondary teachers.

Meet the Learning Team at Rochdale Town Hall and discover more about the hands on learning opportunities we offer. Discover more about Rochdale’s magnificent Town Hall, from the gilded wings of the building’s angels to the gurning gargoyles guarding the entrance, find out how one building can creatively tick all your curricular boxes.
The Creative Learning Team at Touchstones Gallery and Museum will provide an overview of their history-focused programmes ranging from local history to Prehistory, Ancient Civilisations, the Victorians and World War 2. They will share details of facilitator-led sessions and provide guidance on how to get the most from our discovery boxes, including top tips for object-based learning and new, accompanying digital resources.
Caitlin, Education and Outreach Officer at Rochdale Pioneers Museum will introduce their learning programme including workshops exploring Victorian life, the values of co-operation and how local campaigns for change have influenced life in Rochdale and across the world.

Helen Thackray, Creative Partnerships Manager will facilitate a discussion about how the local heritage offer can be further developed to best meet the needs of local schools. Questions to discuss will include:
– Which aspects of the history curriculum are difficult to deliver? How might we support you?
– Considering the costs of transport, what makes a school trip worthwhile?
– What further CPD events would be helpful?
