As we edge closer to making decisions on the heritage stories in the Dining Room, we are considering the different areas and spaces that we can use to tell those stories. Beyond traditional museum cases, the café tables and seating areas can be additional site for storytelling.

Looking at examples of contemporary artists’ works from Horace Lindezey’s commission “We are Gathered Here Together” for the Festival of Making, to Rhoo Dissou’s Courses for Discourses at Primary Nottingham

The artists use the table, as both a sculpture or installation and a site for discussion and the coming together of communities. Reflecting on the table top as a space of creative practice, as well as a site of consuming food, we created collages of table tops and place settings that told stories of our own food histories and invited conversation with others.
