We welcomed in the New Year and reconnected as a group by sharing photographs and memories of celebratory food. The community curators were asked to share images of celebrations from their own lives, as well as community and family events they regularly attend, whether that was a photo of a homemade birthday cake, a table set for Christmas dinner or an Eid party.
Mapping out the year ahead, we started to populate each month with different celebration days. It quickly became clear there a number of different cultural calendars, and with some religions and cultures following a lunar calendar, celebrations can shift from year to year. How do we map out a year of celebrations? And how can we mark particular events both in a collection display and in a live programme of workshops and events once the Dining Room is open? The group embraced the challenge and we will continue to think through celebrations over the coming months.
