Community engagement event takes place, part of The Rochdale Local Pilot
Working together with Rochdale Careers Brokers (part of the Work, Health and Skills Team) a community event recently took place to engage with residents from Lower Falinge and Spotland about activities to live better healthier lives and give support with local services available to them.
The event, hosted in Rochdale Unitarian Church, was attended by over 70 residents, including local councillors, with attendees gaining information from organisations across the borough including Action Together, Home Instead, Mind, Rochdale Football Club, Talk English and Vintage Worx.
On the day, residents shared their ideas of what they would like to see in their area which will help to determine future activities to help people stay active and healthy, both physically and mentally. There was also the opportunity to learn more about the New Pioneers programme set up by RBH and Rochdale Borough Council to provide tailored support and mentoring to local residents with their wellbeing, health, skills and employment prospects.
The event took place as part of The Rochdale Local Pilot, a wider community engagement initiative dedicated to working with residents, physical activity and cultural providers and organisations.
Rochdale’s Local Pilot is working with the community in Lower Falinge and Spotland, focusing on five key population groups:
- children and young people aged 5-18 in out-of-school settings
- people aged 40-60 with, or at risk of, long term conditions
- people out of work, and those currently in work but at risk of unemployment
Sarah Shard, Local Pilot Lead for Rochdale and Programme Manager for Adult Participation at Your Trust, said: “It was important to deliver this event as part of our wider commitment to community engagement. We’re keen to collaborate with residents, welcoming their views in helping to develop programmes for the future. We want to help as many people as possible in the borough to live active and healthy lives, both physically and mentally, so it’s vital that we find out what our local community want.”
The Local Pilot work in Rochdale is being supported by multiple partners in the borough including Rochdale Borough Council (Environmental Management, Work and Skills, Public health, Highways), Your Trust, the VCSE organisation Action Together, Living Well and NHS Link workers.
