We have a wide range of classes that take place in leisure centres and venues across the borough to offer a fun and social way for those who want to improve their overall health and wellbeing, as they age, alongside classes and courses delivered by specialist instructors for people living with long term health conditions.
Aqua Relax
This session is supported by friendly and qualified staff to promote confidence and wellbeing. Come and join us to relax whilst improving your general health, followed by a cup of tea and a chat.
These sessions are dementia friendly.

Chair Based Yoga

We understand that starting group exercise classes can sometimes feel a little daunting.
These 30 minute classes are a great way to build confidence and give a flavour of what the class experience is like, a chance to meet the instructors, learn the basics and set up, learn the health benefits and have fun and meet people.
Intro classes include: yoga, indoor cycling, and aqua fit.

Nature Health Walks
Join us for a walk around one of the scenic areas of Rochdale including the stunning Hollingworth Lake, Castleton Canal, Greenbooth Reservoir, Ogden Reservoir, Hopwood Woods, Healey Dell and Queens Park. We offer a variety of Nature Walks which vary in locations, distance and ability and all take place with a walk leader who has planned the route. We try to make our walks accessible to public transport routes too.
We also deliver courses including Map Reading, Orienteering, GPS/Navigation using smart phones to help people to become more confident and feel safer whilst out walking.
We also organise some trips out, using public transport when we can. We have recently organised visits to Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Dunham Massey.

Supporting Swimmers with Long Term Health Conditions Course
A 6 week course aimed at those living with long term conditions who can swim but have ceased swimming on a regular basis due to a long term condition, for example limited mobility, lack of confidence, unsure of what is safe practice, breathing issues, aches and pains.
The course will be led by a Swim Teacher qualified in supporting swimmers with long term conditions, and supported by a specialist fitness instructor. It will focus on all strokes, water confidence and utilise both the small and large pools.
The aim of the course is to provide the knowledge, techniques and confidence to get you back swimming on a regular basis and gain all the benefits that swimming and water exercise brings.

Water Confidence
A 30 session minute aimed at people living with long term conditions who have ceased to access the pool due to loss of confidence. The session includes changing room tours and information of changing room access and provision for disability. Pool access to small single depth pool to build confidence at being back in the water. Availability of supporting swimmers with long term conditions trained swim teacher for general hints and tips on getting back swimming and a specialist fitness instructor or hints and tips on the benefits of activity and exercise in water.

Water Walking
Walking in water is an excellent cardio and resistance form of exercise. Great for all abilities, for those who find walking on land difficult, for recovery from injury, gentle on bones and joints, strengthens and tones muscles and helps with balance. Water supports the body weight, provides resistance and minimises pain.

We also offer sessions that can be adapted for anyone regardless of ability, such as cycling using our adapted fleet of specialist inclusive bikes.

Walking Football
Football at a slower pace! Designed for those who are looking to get back into football and stay active, or to introduce the sport to people who perhaps have never considered playing before.
Walking football is open to both men and women and all ages and abilities are welcome. Sessions, delivered by friendly qualified coaches, cover skills and games in a social, friendly environment. Games are played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run and it’s a non-contact sport. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no contact.

Walking Netball
Walking Netball is a slower version of the game. It is netball, but at a walking pace.
Walking Netball has been designed so that anyone can play it regardless of age or fitness level. From those who have dropped out of the sport they love due to serious injury, to those who believed they had hung up their netball trainers many years ago, people have started playing Walking Netball for the fun, laughter and camaraderie the social session brings, as much as the health benefits on offer.
All ages and abilities are welcome.
