What is co-production? BSL video

Co-production is when organisations work together with people with lived experience, to make sure that their services, buildings and accessibility work well for everyone.

Often organisations make decisions about what support people might need or what their access needs might be, and they want to be helpful but they might get things wrong. This is because there is a difference between knowing what you have been told about a condition or disability (such as being Deaf, or using a wheelchair), and actually living with that condition. The person who lives with a condition has ‘lived experience’ and knows best what they need.

Why should I get involved? BSL video

This network has been commissioned by Adult Care, and is for people who are:

  1. Physically disabled
  2. Deaf or living with hearing loss
  3. Blind or partially sighted
  4. Deafblind
  5. Living with an acquired brain injury

They want us to work with people who in the Borough of Rochdale, which includes Rochdale, Pennines, Heywood and Middleton. They want us to listen to people’s experiences locally, and then to tell them what is important to local people. They also want to be able to work with local people when they are changing things or creating new services, to make sure that everyone is supported and included fully.

Will meetings be accessible to me? BSL video

We can provide BSL interpreters, Deafblind interpreters, lip speakers and braille or large print information on request. Please ask us if you have access needs and would like any of these things. All venues will be level access, wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets, and where possible will also have changing places facilities.
