Energy Kids

We know that children and young people should aim for at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day. 44% of young people in Rochdale meet the recommended level of physical activity (Active Lives Survey 2022-23).

It is also important for children to have a balanced and varied diet to make sure they get all the nutrients and energy their bodies need to grow, work properly, maintain a healthy weight and feel good. If children don’t get all the nutrients they need from their diet, then this could affect their development.

Children who get more calories than they need, often as part of an unbalanced diet, may become overweight or obese, which puts them at risk of poor physical and mental health. We know that eating habits are established early in life, so by giving children a healthy diet now, we can increase their chances of having a healthy diet later in life.

Our new Energy Kids programme aims to give children and young people the knowledge and opportunities to grow up healthily and continue to lead a healthy lifestyle. The Energy Kids programme contains workshops on healthy eating, physical activity and wellbeing.

Which physical activity at its core, Energy Kids is a fun, active and educational course for the whole class. Our coaches and healthy lifestyle team will deliver interactive nutrition education sessions as well as energetic physical activity sessions. We want children to be able to make healthy choices, create a positive relationship with being active and, most of all, have fun!
