Your Trust are passionate and committed to providing equal opportunities to sports and leisure activities in the borough of Rochdale. A chance for all to get fit, compete, meet new friends, get out the house and provide a great way to improve health and quality of life irrespective of levels of ability.
Our services are developed and designed around our 4 Core Values:
Care
We show our commitment to people and place through the care we take and the quality of our work
People Focused
We are people focused and they are at the heart of what we do
Inclusive
We welcome all. We value diversity, act professionally and with integrity.
We treat everyone with understanding, respect and dignity
Excellence
We listen, learn and strive to be the best we can
We recognise that some individuals require the support of another person to access our activities. This person may be referred to as a carer, a personal assistant (PA) or a support worker, but we recognise that these terms are not exclusive and sometimes people may choose to use another term to describe someone performing a caring or support role. We are also aware that for some people, a family member may offer the necessary support. For the purpose of this document, the term ‘carer’ will be used to denote anyone performing this role.
While carers are supporting someone to attend an inclusive activity, we expect them to abide by this Inclusive activity charter and by our companywide customer charter.
Our Commitment to the Inclusive Sessions
- Staff and coaches are there to facilitate the session, and offer adaptations to the activities to ensure that everyone can participate fully.
- Staff will ensure that everyone is aware of the activities available at each session.
- Staff will support carers where requested to manage behaviour and conduct in the session.
- We want to understand each participant as an individual, including how they communicate and how they interact. It can be helpful to know things that are important to that individual where possible, such as a comfort item that they have, or their favourite colour, or anything else that that helps staff to build a relationship with them.
- We will assess all risks associated with both the individual and the session. If the session is found to be inappropriate for the individual or we feel that there is a safety issue, we reserve the right to decline attendance to that session. If we are able to identify another potentially suitable activity, we will signpost into this.
- We understand that some carers would like to make videos or take photographs of the individual that they support, to share with families or for care records. Staff will support carers to facilitate this where possible, while ensuring that other participants are not in any image or video without full consent.
- We want sessions to be fun and enjoyable for everyone in the room. Our staff are all sports coaches, and are trained in disability awareness and in specific areas such as sensory sport. Certain staff have additional skills such as using British Sign Language and Makaton, and lead staff within sessions are qualified to work in exercise with long term health conditions, in order to ensure activities are safe for the participants.
- All staff and volunteers in sessions are DBS checked and complete DBS declarations on an annual basis.
Your Commitment to Us
- Your Trust is an inclusive organisation who welcome people from all backgrounds. We expect anyone visiting within our sessions and facilities to be respectful of this.
- All carers must complete the carer registration form, and all participants must be registered fully before first attendance. Without registration, carers and participants are unable to participate in sessions.
- Care staff are in the session to support the individual who they are accompanying. Care staff are encouraged to participate in the session with the person who they are supporting, but staff must not leave their client unattended while they participate in games or activity.
- Sessions include individuals with a wide range of needs and behaviours. This means boundaries will be different for each individual, and Your Trust staff rely on the carer(s) for that individual to enforce those boundaries, reinforce instructions from Your Trust staff and to share information as appropriate to enable staff to work effectively with each individual.
- Carers are not permitted to leave their clients unattended. If it is an emergency, then Your Trust staff must be notified that the carer is leaving the session briefly. Your Trust staff can supervise the participant in line with the session content and encourage participation, but are unable to detain or restrain the participant if they try to leave, and cannot be held responsible for any damage or injury to any person if the participant becomes distressed or agitated in the absence of their carer.
- No photos or recording without prior permission with Your Trust staff. Consent must also be taken from any individual before including them in any image.
