School Holiday Activities

We know that school holidays can be a tricky time for parents looking to balance work and life commitments while keeping children entertained. We want children to have fun, make new friends and take part in lots of activities, even trying something new and we offer a variety of sessions for children & young people at various venues across the borough.

The next school holiday in the borough runs from Monday 17 – Friday 21 February 2025 (inclusive)

Gymnastics

Your Gymnastics Camp

Your Gymnastics Camp is for children aged 5 – 12 years.

Our British Gymnastics qualified coaches are here to help whether your child is taking part in gymnastics for the first time or wanting to build on their skills.

Venue: Middleton Arena

Dates:
Monday 17 – Friday 21 February

Times: 8.30am – 3.30pm

Price: £22 per day

Activities: Gymnastics as well as arts & crafts and cinema

Things to bring: Packed lunch, snacks and drinks

Holiday Club

Your Holiday Club

For children aged between 5 and 12 years old

Venue: Middleton Arena

Dates:
Monday 17 – Friday 21 February

Times: 8am – 5pm daily

Price: £24 per day

Activities: Activities include swimming, soft-play, arts, crafts and much more

FRESH Holiday Club

A holiday club for children with mild to moderate additional needs. Delivered in a fun and safe environment by understanding staff.

Funded by Rochdale Council Short Break Holiday Service.

Children & Young People can access two sessions per week for each school holiday period (10 hours per week).

Venues:  Heywood Sports Village and Rochdale Leisure Centre.

Activities: Activities include swimming, cycling, archery, tennis, cricket, water activities and much more!

Hollingworth Lake Adventure Activities

Teddy Bear’s Paddle Picnic

If you go down to the lake today you’re sure of a big surprise!

This summer, Hollingworth Lake Adventure & Water Activity Centre is bringing outdoor fun to your summer holiday Mondays!

We all know teddies love adventures, so pack a picnic and your favourite bear and take a paddle out onto the lake in our bell boat to find your perfect picnic spot on the lakeside.

Suitable for Ages 4+.

Children must be accompanied by an adult – adults also require a ticket.

Picnic not included – please bring your own.

Multi Activity

Take advantage of our multi activity days that include kayaking, raft building, sailing, windsurfing, climbing, archery and mountain biking.

Multi activity sessions are an ideal introduction to outdoor pursuits, an opportunity to make new friends and have a school holiday with a difference!

Youth Courses

Have you ever wanted to experience kayaking, windsurfing or sailing and come away with a National Governing Body Qualification?

Head to Hollingworth Lake this school holiday and take part in a two day course. On completion, you will gain membership to Hollingworth Lake Activity Club.

Artistic Swimming

Previously known as synchronised swimming this course includes team work, expression, connection and creativity.

Intensive Learn to Swim

Non Swimmers
(Stanley 1+2 & Octopus 1) For children with little or no swimming experience.
For those that are not able to swim, no experience is necessary. The main aim of the lessons will be to gain confidence moving freely in the water, float, achieve mobility and to submerge and open eyes under the water.

Beginners
(Stanley 3-6 & Octopus 2) For swimmers with little swimming experience.
For swimmers that are confident moving in the water, Submerging and able to propel themselves through the water.

Improvers
(Octopus 3 & Goldfish 1) For swimmers who are improving their strokes so that good streamlining is apparent and the limb movements are correct.

A 30 minute lesson per day
Lessons are available between 9.30am – 1pm depending on level

Junior Lifeguard

For children aged 8 years +
Children must be able to swim 50m confidently

A survival and rescue training programme that includes lifeguarding skills, first aid, ocean awareness, distance, sports skills and health and wellbeing.

Snorkelling – Beginners

For children aged 8 years +
Children must be able to swim 50 metres unaided

An introduction to basic snorkelling involving swimming along the surface of the water and enjoying the underwater world equipped with a mask, snorkel and fins.

Snorkelling – Advanced

For children aged 8 years +
Children must be able to swim 50 metres

The course involves under water routines, understanding underwater communication skills and fin swimming.

Stroke Improvement Clinic

For swimmers who are improving their strokes so that good streamlining is apparent and the limb movements and aquatic breathing is correct for the 3 main swimming strokes.
